Part 2. Prepping the Walls for a Perfect Finish 

Step 1: Clean the walls

3. Painting the Walls Like a Pro 

Step 1: Stir the paint 
🔹 Use a stir stick to properly blend the paint before pouring into the tray. Think of it like you’re mixing pancake batter—you need even color distribution with no clumps.  

Step 2: Cut in the edges of the first wall 
🔹 Use an angled brush to paint along the ceiling trim, baseboards and corners of one wall before breaking out the roller. This is important. I know you’re itching to start rolling the beautiful color on the wall first, but try and refrain. Edge first for a clean, blended look. Also, edging is like coloring inside the lines as a kid. It takes patience and precision!

🔹 Dip the roller into the tray, then roll back and forth slowly a few times to coat it evenly. 

Step 4: Apply paint in W-shaped strokes to the same wall you just edged before repeating the process on the next wall – edge then roll

🔹 Check paint drying times, but typically wait 2-4 hours before the second coat. The can of paint should list the recommended dry time. It’s important to follow these instructions carefully – the dry paint could react with the wet paint and leave unsightly streaks.

Step 6: Apply a second coat (if needed) 
🔹 Use the same W-shaped technique, blending edges carefully. 

Step 7: Remove painter’s tape before paint dries 
🔹 Gently peel tape at a 45 degree angle to prevent chipping.

If roller marks appear, lightly blend them with a roller while the paint is still wet!
